Confined Space Entry Rescue (CSER) provides a 2 day, 16-hour training in Confined Space Rescue fundamentals, focusing on Provincial and Federal Legislation, Lock out Tag out, Metering and Monitoring, Hazard Assessments, Confined Space Entry, Patient Packaging, Patient Extrication, Rigging for Confined Space Rescue and Ventilation. Our experienced Instructors will draw upon their extensive actual rescue experience to simplify confined space rescue for course members utilizing a safe, functional and efficient approach.  Lead Instructors will draw from actual field experience to create practical scenarios which will be utilized to challenge members to apply the skills required to successfully complete this course. Requisite skills are based on NFPA 1006 Chapter 7.1 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have Standard First Aid CPR (First Responder Certification Preferred)
  • Previous SCBA Training and Fit Testing
  • Fall Protection Training
  • Lock Out Tag Out
  • Confined Space Entrant (Awareness)
  • Confined Space Attendant (Non-Entry Rescue)

Course Syllabus:

Day 1:

What Is A Confined Space?; Confined Space Entry Program; Standards/Legislation (Occupational Health And Safety Act); Roles And Responsibilities; Identification And Entry Permits; Hazard Assessment, Controls And Work Procedures; Lockout Tag Out; Atmospheric Metering And Testing (MSA Altair 4x/Is M40) and interpretation; Cleaning, Purging, Venting; Introduction To Confined Space Entry Rescue; Rescue Considerations; Lifelines, Harnesses And Lifting Equipment; Personal Protective Equipment And Other Precautions; Patient Packaging Devices; SCBA; Basic Rigging Techniques; Knots; Rescue Team Equipment.

Day 2:

Creating An Entry Rescue Plan; Rescue Stand-By Persons; Introduction To Respiratory Protection; Lifelines, Harness, Lifting Equipment And Basic Rigging; Patient Care Considerations; Confined Space Entry Rescue (Horizontal Scenarios); Confined Space Entry Rescue (Vertical Scenarios); Confined Space Rescue Quiz.

Course Includes:

  • Spartan Rescue Certificate of Completion

Class Size:

Limited to 12 members. We emphasize hands-on, learn by doing instruction and encourage participation by everyone in the class.  Successful completion of the course will be determined by members successfully completing the skills assessment and achieving 80 percent or greater on the multiple choice test.

What to Bring to the Class:

  • Eye Protection
  • Rope Rescue Gloves or New Leather Gloves
  • Work Wear, Long Pants or Work Coveralls
  • CSA Steel Toe Work Boots
  • Note Taking Material
  • Cameras are encouraged on the training ground
  • We will be outside most of the course so dress appropriately for the weather.
